چکیده

24 Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mediates energy metabolism and 25 feeding behavior. As a neurotrophin, BDNF promotes neuronal differentiation, 26 survival during early development, adult neurogenesis and neural plasticity; thus 27 there is the potential that BDNF could modify circuits important to eating behavior 28 and energy expenditure. The possibility that " faulty " circuits could be remodeled by 29 BDNF is an exciting concept for new therapies for obesity and eating disorders. In 30 the hypothalamus, BDNF and its receptor, tropomyosin-related kinase B (trkB), are 31 extensively expressed in areas associated with feeding and metabolism. 32 Hypothalamic BDNF and trkB appear to inhibit food intake and increase energy 33 expenditure leading to negative energy balance. In the hippocampus, the 34 involvement of BDNF in neural plasticity and neurogenesis is important to learning 35 and memory, but less is known about how BDNF participates in energy homeostasis. 36 We review current research about BDNF in specific brain locations related to energy 37 balance, environmental and behavioral influences on BDNF expression and the 38 possibility that BDNF may influence energy homeostasis via its role in neurogenesis 39 and neural plasticity.

Background & Objective : As apoptotic cell death plays an important role in natural development and many pathologic conditions such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, understanding of its molecular mechanisms can be useful in designing new therapeutic strategies. In present study following induction of apoptosis in spinal motoneurons, expression of neurotrophic factor BDNF, and its rec...

Overlapping and distinct actions of the neurotrophins BDNF, NT-3, and NT-4/5 on cultured dopaminergic and GABAergic neurons of the ventral mesencephalon.

The neurotrophins brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT-3), and neurotrophin-4/5 (NT-4/5) were compared for their effects in promoting the survival and/or regulation of expression of phenotypic markers of dopaminergic and GABAergic neurons in cultures derived from embryonic rat ventral mesencephalon. Dopaminergic neuron number and phenotypic expression were monitored by t...

Neurotrophin-4/5 (NT-4/5) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) act at later stages of cerebellar granule cell differentiation.

The developing cerebellum expresses genes which encode for both neurotrophins and their receptors. The present study was designed to determine at what stages during cerebellar granule cell neurogenesis neurotrophin family molecules may act. We report here that in purified, well-characterized granule cell cultures (Gao et al., 1991; 1992), none of the neurotrophins stimulated proliferation of gr...

Neurotrophin-4/5 is a mammalian-specific survival factor for distinct populations of sensory neurons.

We have studied the effect of human recombinant neurotrophin-4/5 (NT-4/5) on the survival of developing PNS neurons from embryonic mice and chickens. NT-4/5 transiently supported mouse NGF-dependent trigeminal and jugular neurons at early stages of target field innervation and mouse brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)-dependent no-dose neurons during the phase of naturally occurring cell d...
